ON
Energy believes the Berbice Block has excellent potential:
Verified
hydrocarbon source offshore
Basement
highs onshore form barriers to further migration
Oil
seeps onshore
Oil/gas
shows from prior drilling
Rose
Hall#1 heavy oil show in the upper Cretaceous in 1942
Oil
and gas shows in Skeldon water well
In
fall 2003, geochemical analyses identified 22 prospective leads.
Exploration
by Staatsalie has confirmed onshore potential
Tambaredjo
has reserves of 170 million bbls, equivalent to 1.2 million bbls per
sq km
Calcutta,
with a preliminary reserve estimate of 15 million bbls, was discovered
in March 2003 using geochemical techniques
3
large geochemical anomalies have been mapped in Nickerie just across
the Corentyne River from ON's Berbice Block
The
Nickerie exploration wells are forecast to be drilled in 2005
The above map shows
the documented Canje world-class source kitchen, along with the
possible paths of hydrocarbon migration.

In 2003, to identify prospective targets ON Energy selectively verified with 2-D seismic,
however it used less expensive technologies to identify anomalous areas.
These technologies included taking geomicrobial samples on a 250
m grid over the coastal portion of the Berbice Block, re-interpreting
portions of a 100,000 km aeromagnetic survey, and incorporating
gravity data into the analysis.
In
July 2003, Warren Workman, Vice President of Exploration for CGX,
visited the Rose Hall #1 location in this sugar cane field. Drilling
in 1942 encountered heavy oil at 6,100 feet.
